Emergency response to leaks

Lsolate the leaking contaminated area and set up warning signs around it. Emergency personnel are advised to wear gas masks and chemical protective clothing. Do not touch the leak directly, absorb it with inert, moist, non-combustible materials. Pour to an open area and bury deeply. Scrub contaminated floor with soap or detergent, and put diluted sewage into the wastewater system. If large quantities are spilled, collect and recycle or dispose of harmlessly.

Health Hazards: Dust can irritate eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Inhalation and oral ingestion can be fatal. Inhalation causes coughing, chest pain, pain, metallic taste in the mouth and psychiatric symptoms. Damage to liver and kidneys. Skin contact can cause hives.

First aid measures

SKIN CONTACT: Rinse thoroughly with soapy water and water. Seek medical attention.

EYE CONTACT: Pull eyelids away and rinse with running water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

INHALATION: Remove from scene to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: For accidental ingestion, drink warm water and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention.

Uses:

It is an inorganic compound, white or slightly yellowish crystalline powder, slightly soluble in cold water, hot ethanol and ether, soluble in hot water and dilute ammonium hydroxide; it turns into vanadium pentoxide when it is burnt in air. It is mainly used as chemical reagent, catalyst, drying agent, mordant, etc. It is widely used as glaze in ceramics industry, and can also be used to produce vanadium pentoxide.
